Marshall Plan delegation deeply impressed by IMC Krems

IMC Krems had the pleasure to welcome an US-American biotech expert delegation led by Peter Sedlmayer (Austrian Trade Commission, Chicago) and Markus Schweiger (Marshall Plan Foundation, Vienna) in May 2019.

Marshall Plan: The participants at the IMC Gozzoburg in Krems.

Some of the visiting researchers from renowned institutions such as the Harvard Stem Cell Institute or the California Pacific Medical Center were pleasantly surprised to meet their former students (and meanwhile successful IMC graduates) again who had been benefitting from a Marshall Plan grant to complete their thesis research traineeships in Boston or San Francisco.

Harald Hundsberger, Department head Life Sciences, and Barbara Entler, Marshall Plan grant coordinator, impressed the visitors with their lively presentations of IMC’s Bachelor and Master programmes in Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.  Frank Horling elaborated on the projects of the Research Institute for Applied Bioanalytics and Drug Development while Harald Leiter and Christian Schimper presented Technopol Krems and the company Acticell respectively.

The ensuing expert discussions resulted in concrete plans to deepen student mobility, teaching and research co-operations between IMC Krems faculty and their visiting American peers. Uwe Rinner was delighted that he could also establish useful contacts for his Bachelor Programme in Applied Chemistry.

After the very intense discussions participants finally enjoyed a relaxing and informative wine tasting session at the Gozzoburg presented by Albert Stöckl, director of IMC’s Bachelor in International Wine Business programme. The American delegation members left deeply impressed, having experienced IMC Krems as a hub for excellent education and applied research as well as a centre of hospitality and vibrant academic and social exchange.
