Picture collage on family friendliness at IMC Krems

We are a family-friendly university

For many years, IMC Krems has been working hard to establish various measures designed to enable its people to strike a balance between work, university and family commitments. Our Family Matters programme contains a full range of resources designed to make it easier to establish healthy boundaries between the various elements at play.

Available measures include childcare, prenatal and postnatal midwife support and back-to-work programmes, flexible working time models, working from home, sabbaticals and a comprehensive selection of training and development courses – as well as a range of benefits for employees, students and teaching staff alike.

Through its participation in the hochschuleundfamilie audit, which earned the university the state seal of approval, IMC Krems has once again demonstrated its family-friendly credentials. Particularly in academic research, maintaining a healthy balance between career opportunities and the needs of family life can pose a particular challenge. As an employer and educational institution, IMC Krems plays a key role in helping to provide employees and students with a family-friendly working and learning environment.

In this context, it is also important to define what we understand by family, as striking a healthy work-life balance extends beyond access to childcare. It also covers things like taking care of relatives and the general ability to square family and private commitments with university life, as well as providing additional support during difficult times.

Gender and diversity

Diversity: a key resource

“All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.” (Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 1). As a university, we want to take advantage of the opportunities that diversity presents and are therefore committed to responsible and respectful treatment of a range of different values.

Our diversity management systems help us to identify differences and similarities between our stakeholders and critically reflect on our procedures. In this way, we can ensure equal access to resources such as education and employment for all.

Another important aspect: we are a female- and family-friendly organisation – with respect to both our staff and students. Thanks to our numerous initiatives, we are one of the companies in Austria that have been particularly successful in promoting women within the company: This is also confirmed by the equalitA seal of excellence.

In order to send a clear signal in relation to diversity, the university signed the Diversity Charter in 2013 – a voluntary pledge to respect and value all members of society
