All the info you need

Our eDesktop  and the webmail service are vital tools for IMC Krems students and staff.

The eDesktop is our intranet where we post important information for both students and employees – including timetables, room bookings and the latest news. It provides individual users with precisely the information they need.

Distance learning and mobile working

Distance Learning

Where possible and appropriate, our university also uses distance learning, usually as a complement for face-to-face teaching. We have the option of setting up virtual classrooms, for instance using Microsoft Teams. Alternatively, lecturers can prepare e-learning units, in which students are given tasks or exercises which they complete by themselves.

If requested by lecturers, examinations at our university can also be held digitally – either orally via Microsoft Teams or in writing using biz:Examiner.

Mobile Working

Mobile working: no problem! Thanks to the seamless integration of various Microsoft 365 tools, in-house programs and databases, IMC staff can access documents and databases and communicate with the rest of their team as usual from home.

This technical set-up has shown its value during the Covid-19 pandemic, and allowed for the quick and trouble-free switch to online working.

eduroam - a Wi-Fi network of IMC Krems

Wi-Fi

Stay connected: you can access our stable, fast Wi-Fi network at all IMC Krems locations.

The university is part of eduroam (education roaming), an international project that enables students and employees to access wireless networks at numerous Austrian and foreign education institutions using the login data from their own university.

Authentication takes place via your IMC account. You can simply use your university e-mail address ([email protected]) and password to log in.

Tip: the eduroam service is especially useful during an exchange semester, excursions and trips abroad.

It goes without saying that visitors and conference participants can also access our fast and stable wireless network.

In this case, authentication is performed using the PIN provided. The PIN is displayed on the information panels  at the event location. Alternatively, you can also contact the event organiser.

To use our Wi-Fi network, you need a valid password and a device with a WLAN interface (WPA2/AES, 802.1X or at least 802.11n-compatible).

Free Office 365 for all students and employees

Free Office 365

All students, lecturers and staff can use the Microsoft Windows operating system and Microsoft Office package free of charge.

You will also receive an IMC Krems e-mail address combined with a free Microsoft Office package that can be used on up to five devices (PC, Mac, tablet or smartphone).

In addition to your mailbox, you also have one terabyte of free cloud storage space.

Your password can be reset by IT Services

Forgotten your password?

We can help you with this, too.

However, to do this, we need to confirm your identity for data protection reasons and to protect against unauthorised changes to your password.
If you need to reset your password, you have the following options:

Option 1: You can call or mail us to have your password reset to the original password stored in our user database.

Option 2: Visit the IT Service Desk (first floor, wing G, Campus Krems) and bring a photo ID.

Make sure that your laptop has a HDMI or VGA socket.

Fully equipped seminar rooms

Practical extras: students and lecturers will find more than enough sockets in our seminar and meeting rooms.

If you would like to connect your laptop to the AV equipment in the rooms – such as the projector or Panaboard electronic whiteboard – you can use the following cables:

  • VGA
  • HDMI

If your laptop does not have any of these sockets, please bring an adaptor with you or access your personal cloud storage space using the PC in the room.

Please note: unfortunately, we cannot offer all of the adaptors currently available on the market.

Don't forget to do a technology check ahead of your studies

Technology check: have you got the right equipment?

To help you get the best out of our IT infrastructure, we recommend that you use a Wi-Fi-enabled laptop with the latest version of Microsoft Windows and the Microsoft Office suite .

We recommend you use the Windows 11 x86/x64 (Version: Home, Pro or Education) operating system, and at least an Intel i5 or AMD Ryzen 5/7 processor and 8GB RAM, or a comparable device.

Students on the Informatics bachelor degree programme should use a device with at least 16GB RAM.

We recommend using at least the Mac OS X 10.15 (Catalina) operating system, and an Intel i5 processor and 8GB RAM. These requirements are usually met by Mac models from around 2014 onwards.

Students on the Informatics bachelor degree programme should use a device with at least 16GB RAM.

Please note: You can install Windows on Macs running Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) on Intel CPUs onwards using the Boot Camp (dual boot).  We recommend installing Windows to simplify your day-to-day work at the university.

Attention: Apple devices with ARM Apple M1/M2 chipsets are not supported for Bootcamp or virtual x86 emulation!
