Institute Digitalisation and Informatics

Climate change, sustainability and the digital transformation of the economy and society – these topics are among the greatest challenges of our times. Building on its research focuses of digital transformation and organisational development, and software engineering for intelligent systems, the Institute of Digitalisation and Informatics is committed to developing solutions and carrying out research in these specific fields.

We use a range of state-of-the-art technologies and tools, including augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), big data analytics and many more besides. Agile approaches and innovative methods such as design thinking and lean prototyping help to enhance the institute’s innovative capabilities.

Solving real-world problems

Research is geared to the needs of business and industry, where effective software and application solutions lay the foundations for improved competitiveness and high-performance operations. Our research partners include companies, the public sector and other research and education institutions.

The aim of our research is to develop new, innovative solutions, tools and approaches that bring about improvements in the business environment by means of sustainable information and communication technologies, and provide examples and reference points for businesses, partner organisations and the public sector.

As we like to say: “We solve real-world problems”.

Research projects conducted with domestic and international business and academic partners enable us to bring this mission to life. And of course, we serve as role models, instilling this mindset in students on the Informatics and Digital Business Innovation and Transformation degree programmes.

" In an increasingly complex software landscape, there is strong demand for new approaches that make system variability more manageable and unlock the full potential of improvements delivered by data analytics. One of the institute’s core objectives is developing processes that pave the way for a sustainable, future-capable digitalisation drive, by means of its own research and in cooperation with project partners. At the moment we are focusing our attention on artificial intelligence, smart and knowledge-based decentralised software systems, software engineering, and innovation and transformation management. "
