On foot
Krems is a liveable town that’s very easy to navigate on foot. It only takes about 15 minutes to walk from IMC Campus Krems to Steiner Tor, where the pedestrian zone in the old town begins. And the train station is a 25-minute walk away. The IMC Piaristengasse and IMC Gozzoburg sites are right in the heart of the old town – you can get there easily on foot, or alternatively take kremsstadtbus number 4.
The convenient way to travel: kremsstadtbus
There are seven bus routes in Krems, serving the old town as well as all the different districts in the town. The number 1 bus stops at IMC Campus Krems. All of the buses depart from Krems railway station – the perfect service if you need to catch a train.

You can buy single tickets at tobacconists in Krems, online at shop.vor.at or on the buses themselves. A monthly student pass costs EUR 10.80. The Austrian KlimaTicket Ö is also valid on buses in Krems.
Out and about in the evenings – call-and-collect shuttle service (Anrufsammeltaxi) in Krems
The call-and-collect shuttle is a good option when public buses have stopped running. The service operates every 30 minutes, until 00:30 from Monday to Thursday and until 03:30 from Friday to Sunday and on public holidays. If you want to use the service, you need to book at least one hour in advance and specify the bus or shuttle stop where you would like to be picked up. You can book a shuttle by calling 0043 (0)2732 81082.
• Call-and-collect shuttle service tickets
The cost of the shuttle depends on how many zones you need to travel. The fare is EUR 2.50 per person and zone. If you would like to take a shuttle with another person, and you are both picked up from the same stop and dropped off at the same destination, you only have to pay one fare per zone. The KlimaTicket Ö is not valid on the call-and-collect service.
Trains to and from Krems
The railway station is in the centre of Krems, close to the old town. Regional buses, kremsstadtbus services and Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) trains all depart from the station. Regular direct trains operate between Krems and Vienna, usually once an hour. It takes about an hour to reach the underground stations at Heiligenstadt and Spittelau in Vienna and the city’s Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof station. ÖBB services also run directly between Krems and St Pölten.
• Tickets for ÖBB trains
You can buy tickets at the station or using the ÖBB ticket app. If you are under 26, discount fares are available if you have a ÖBB Vorteilscard Jugend railcard. If you take the train regularly, the Eastern Region Transport Association (VOR) monthly pass for students is probably the best option. Alternatively, there is the KlimaTicket Ö Jugend pass, which costs EUR 821 a year for young people up to the age of 25. It gives you unlimited free travel on all public transport in Austria for a 365-day period, starting from a date of your choice.
Nextbike – flexible bike hire
A Nextbike is a great way to get from A to B under your own steam. There are eight Nextbike stations in Krems, and after picking up a bike, you can drop it off again at any docking station.

The first half hour is free, and you pay EUR 1 for every additional half hour. It costs EUR 15 to hire a bike for 24 hours. You can hire a bike whenever you need one using the nextbike by TIER app, or by calling the hotline on 0043 (0)2742 229901.
Buddy – the carsharing app
Need a car, van or moped at short notice? Buddy is there to help! Whether you need it for 30 minutes or three days, you can hire a vehicle via the Buddy carsharing app using the short-term ‘Share’ option. Buddy also offers ‘Rent’ and ‘Abo’ (subscription) models if you want to use the service more regularly.

Prices depend on the size of the vehicle, the rental period and the number of kilometres you travel.
Rental cars start from EUR 5.90 for 30 minutes.
