Two of last year’s graduates decided to go for a PhD after successfully finishing the International Business and Economic Diplomacy master degree programme: Larissa Schachenhofer and Chen Yang. This is not uncommon. In the last few years, more and more graduates have opted for a PhD after completing their studies at IMC Krems, some of them aiming for a scientific career or a career in the education sector.
An interdisciplinary PhD approach? Just the right angle for Larissa Schachenhofer.
Larissa Schachenhofer wants to contribute to finding innovative solutions for emerging societal challenges with her interdisciplinary education and training. Therefore, she decided to do a PhD after her studies in Krems.
The idea of pursuing a PhD evolved during her research for a master thesis topic. By that time, she had just graduated from her first master degree program at the University of Life Sciences Vienna. Suddenly, there was this desire to start a project where she can combine all she has learned in both fields of studies.
After graduating from the IMC Krems, she started working as a scientific assistant at the University of Life Sciences Vienna. At the moment, Larissa Schachenhofer is writing her PhD thesis on the challenges of sustainable transportation. She is striving for an academic career and wishing to leave her mark in both research and teaching.
Contributing to modern management research: Chen Yang is on his way to become an expert in behavioural research and customer experience design
Chen Yang is also planning a career in higher education after his PhD. He decided to embark on a challenging journey in order to become an expert in the area of behavioural research and customer experience design.
He values the knowledge and skills he acquired as a student in the International Business and Economic Diplomacy master degree programme. Especially the classes on behavioural science, strategic management and the master thesis contributed to his decision to pursue a PhD. In addition, Prof.(FH) Dr. Martin Waiguny and the supervisor of his thesis Prof.(FH) Dr. Alina Schoenberg supported and inspired him to continue his studies. Their consistent encouragement boosted his confidence regarding entering academia, and their particular devotion to research has catalysed his decision.
Despite his determination to stay in the academia Chen Yang has also some entrepreneurial ideas and aims at becoming a valued member within the business community.
