Career Links – careers support for students and graduates
IMC Krems’ Career Links fair took place on 20 March. Over 50 companies from a variety of sectors attended the event for students and recent graduates, who spent the day finding out about the successful regional and international businesses in attendance, as well as the internships and entry-level positions they offer. Career Links is clearly one of the reasons behind IMC Krems’ outstanding graduate employment rate of 98%.
Talented young people in demand
“This is our first time here. We’re expanding our workforce considerably, so I’m hoping to recruit lots of high potentials,” said Kathrin Stech, an HR recruitment manager at Boehringer Ingelheim, where many IMC Krems graduates already work. “We’ll be recruiting about 500 new employees over the next few years – from production workers to laboratory staff – and I’m looking forward to meeting lots of bright young minds here,” confirmed her colleague Patrick Mitmasser.
As in 2017, IMC Krems graduates Christina Draxler and Vanessa Flicker were once again representing Kastner Gruppe at Career Links. Christina Draxler: “We’re looking for talented trainee managers with the right qualifications, and who are a good fit for a family-owned company.” The firm offers employees attractive career opportunities, as her colleague Vanessa Flicker can confirm after moving from the company's logistics unit to its HR development department.
The manager of Hofer’s Loosdorf regional office Markus Freytag was also delighted to be back: “We have been cooperating with IMC Krems for 13 years now. I was so impressed with their professional approach that I recommended the university to my daughter.”
“The Erber Group has experienced very strong growth over the last 30 years and we’re now opening a new location in Tulln, where we need to fill vacancies in research. These positions would be a great first step on the career ladder for graduates of the Pharmaceutical and Medical Biotechnology bachelor degree programme,” explained Melanie Zorn, a recruitment specialist at the Erber Group, who also studied at IMC Krems.
Another IMC Krems graduate Gerhard Pronegg from Natuvion Consulting was impressed by the new Data Science and Analytics degree programme and had a message for future data scientists: “We’ll be on the lookout for you. You’re going to be in great demand in Austria and Germany.
Added extras
As well as meeting potential employers, the attendees also took advantage of various services and forms of assistance aimed at helping them start their job hunting on the right foot, such as CV photo shoots and tips for preparing written applications. Graduates could also find out more about the master degree programmes on offer at IMC Krems at the IMC Master Lounge.
Ideal preparation for the workplace
The strong practical focus of education and research at IMC Krems ensures that its graduates are well placed to assume positions of responsibility. Degree programme development in line with industry requirements, and implementation of research projects for industry partners mean that IMC Krems graduates can begin to make a valuable contribution for their employers as soon as they start work.
Internships are an integral part of all of the university’s degree programmes and give students the opportunity to supplement their application-based expertise by means of work experience. From the company’s perspective, internships are a chance to get to know and assess the abilities of prospective employees.
