Business Administration for the Public Health Sector bachelor degree programme

The healthcare sector is a growing market, and needs qualified experts. This part-time programme will equip you with the skills you require for success in the healthcare industry.

After completing this three-year course, you will be ready to progress within your organisation and take on management responsibilities. At work, you will be able to bring lots of fresh ideas to the table from an early stage – new opportunities open up for some of our students before they have even finished the programme.

Business administration focuses on how organisations and companies are managed. In other words, it examines business processes with the aim of providing insights into the planning, implementation and evaluation of responsibility, approaches and objectives in different parts of a business.

Our lecturers are here to give you practical knowledge based on theories, concepts and their personal experience. What’s more, excursions offer you a behind-the-scenes look at organisational set-ups, and you also receive information on the latest academic studies.

RESEARCH FOCUSES AT THE INSTITUTE OF HEALTH MANAGEMENT

    1. The basics

    Semesters 1-3

    Acquiring sound basic knowledge is important for your future career. This is why the curriculum includes business administration, economics and law. You will learn about information technology and enhance your social skills.

    Many courses are designed with the specifics of the healthcare industry and the health service in mind, so you will also start to develop your health-related expertise.  For instance, you will learn about the basics of medical and nursing care, as well as about health systems and the role of health policy.

    2. Advanced courses

    Semesters 4-6

    In the final three semesters you will take the next step, building on what you have already learned during your degree, examining this knowledge from a theoretical standpoint in dedicated courses and putting your expertise into practice in the course of the internship. Subjects such as innovation management, budgeting and risk management will enhance your skills profile as a health service manager.

    The emphasis is on health-sector organisations like primary care providers, hospitals, nursing services and rehab centres, as well as the pharmaceuticals industry and medical product sales. Your bachelor paper gives you the opportunity to review and deepen your knowledge of degree programme topics from an academic viewpoint.

    3. Practical experience

    Semesters 1-6

    The majority of the students on the part-time programme work either full-time or part-time alongside their studies. The benefit for you: you gain valuable professional experience or can continue working for your current employer. You will be studying alongside fellow healthcare professionals, which makes for interesting and informative class discussions. You can debate questions together in groups and share your experiences with each other.

    Case studies, project work and lecturers from the healthcare sector are all part of the programme’s strong practical focus.
