ISCONTOUR 2014 Best Paper Award 1st prize Winner David Jenkins from South Africa (3rd from left), together with Professor Roman Egger (left), Ulrike Prommer (CEO of IMC FH Krems, 2nd from left) and Professor Christian Maurer (IMC FH Krems, right).

The ISCONTOUR was founded in 2013 by IMC Krems Professor Christian Maurer (Department Business) and Professor Roman Egger of FH Salzburg in order to provide a platform where international students and graduates of Bachelor and Master degree programmes can submit and present tourism-related research papers based on approved their BA- or MA-theses. Moreover, the annual conference, which takes place alternately at the venues of FH Salzburg and IMC FH Krems, aims to establish a forum of knowledge transfer and networking for students, alumni, scholars and representatives of the tourism industry.

The first ISCONTOUR 2014 day started with a research methodology workshop consisting of three presentations. Professor Rodolfo Baggio (Bocconi University Milan, Italy) spoke on “Complexity and network science in tourism”, IMC FH Krems alumni Stefanie Gallob (European Travel Commission, Brussels) explained how to “Uncover travellers’ expectations through netnography”, and Professor Inge Herman (Saxion University of Applied Science, Holland) gave insights how to “Use narrative inquiry to understand field trip experience”.
The main conference day was opened with a welcoming speech by Professor Eva Werner (Rector of IMC FH Krems, Austria) and a keynote presentation from Professor Brigitte Stangl (University of Surrey, UK) on “Co-creation and its implications for the tourism industry.”

In total 28 research papers were accepted for presentation at ISCONTOUR 2014. All submitted articles were double-blind reviewed by a high-level scientific committee consisting of 38 international professors and researchers. The students’ research papers covered a great variety of tourism issues in marketing and management, product development and sustainability, and information and communication technologies (ICT). The three best research papers and the three best ICT-related papers were chosen by the scientific committee and the winners of the Best Paper Awards were:
