GUEST SPEAKERS
Mrs. Katarina Mancama
Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA), Queenswood, South Africa.
Topic: "Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA): Responsible Tourism initiatives in South Africa and through the tourism supply chain"
Mrs. Mancama will present a short history and overview of FTTSA, and how this initiative fits into the strategic and legal framework of South Africa and the benefits of certification. She will then move on to talk about a specific project, with the aim of developing standards for a Fair Trade holiday package. The focus will be on what is needed through the supply chain, both with regards to product and trade standards. The project is very practice-oriented, tour operators are integrated in order to create Fair Trade packages that will be audited against the standards developed and then marketed to the public.
Topic: “Can we protect our climate? Yes we can! Just be sustainable! Addressing climate change through sustainable development pathways.”
Mag. Rainer Schultheis
ORF Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, Vienna
Increasing production of services and goods on our planet in the last centuries has created some of the most pressing problems for mankind: the world`s future need for resources in the face of an increase of the global population and the anthropogenic climate change. These central issues provoke new solutions and poses enormous social, economic and ecological challenges for all of us. Mr. Schultheis will demonstrate the basic tools of sustainability, e.g. the carbon footprint and the ecological rucksack. Sustainability and (corporate) social responsibility are sometimes misused placeholders, but their basic principles may lead to a new "way of living" without loss of either quality of life or well being.
This event is a joint initiative between the Institute of Tourism Management and the Institute of Export Management. Seats on first come-first serve basis.
