According to the 1993 University of Applied Sciences Studies Act (Fachhochschul-Studiengesetz [FHStG]), the main objectives and guiding principles of university of applied sciences degree programmes are:
- guaranteeing practical university-level education
- imparting the ability to solve problems in the respective profession according to the state of the art and practical requirements
- promoting transparency in the education system and the professional flexibility of graduates
- implementing a quality management system which reflects the principles taught in the university’s curriculum
- taking into account the quality standards expected in international business
