Internship

The internship (Practical Training Semester – PTS) is an integral part of the bachelor’s programme and lasts for a minimum of 22 weeks. The internship takes place in the 4th semester and must be completed abroad. 

Aim of the internship

The internship enables students to apply their theoretical course knowledge to the “professional world”. In that way students obtain practical insights into the processes and tasks of a company and can gain valuable experience which may be crucial for their career.

Organisation of the internship

The individual decision-making process for a partner company is already initiated up to one year before the internship actually starts. The students are required to search their PTS on their own. However, they can rely on an extensive internship-database provided by the university. Moreover, experience reports written by previous interns represent a very useful source of information. Individual mentoring before, during and after the internship is ensured by our PTS-coordinator.

The internship in detail

The internship is coordinated, supervised and evaluated by the university. Prior to the internship a contract must be signed between the contract partners, which are the company, the student and the IMC University of Applied Sciences. The clauses of the contract include a detailed description of the student’s tasks and responsibilities during his / her internship. The criteria for the evaluation of the student’s performance are:

• an initial report which should describe the student’s first experience with his / her company, the tasks given and cultural impressions of the destination
• a detailed seminar paper (final report) showing how already existing theoretical knowledge, gained practical experience and intercultural understanding are consolidated 
• a presentation of the internship
