Programme overview
The bachelor’s programme lasts for three years (six semesters) and is split up into five theoretical semesters and one internship which lasts for a minimum of 22 weeks.
Besides that, within the framework of the Erasmus or Joint-Study Programmes, our students have the opportunity to spend a semester at one of our numerous partner universities abroad. (IMC's partner universities)
There is only one student in-take per academic year (fall term) for a maximum number of 60 students. The bachelor’s programme is operated exclusively in English.
Basic business studies
The first three semesters are dedicated to the fundamentals of business management, economics and the regulatory framework for export activities. Some examples for lectures held in the first three semesters are: Accounting, Applied Computer Technologies, Controlling, Marketing, Organisational Behaviour, Logistics and Law. Additionally, Economic Areas and their interrelationships are discussed. For the full list of lectures please refer to the Curriculum.
Specialisations (Chairs)
Starting with the 3rd semester specific expertise in business management as well as in legal aspects is acquired. In accordance with industry demands the bachelor’s programme offers three specialisations (so-called “chairs”). Out of these three specialisation areas the student has to choose two for the bachelor exam. The specialisation areas (International Management & Business, Human Resource & Intercultural Management, International Law & Global Political Studies), which represent the elementary components for our students’ professional life, have been identified and developed in an ongoing dialogue with our business partners and our alumni.
Interdisciplinary modules
encompass all qualifications that contribute significantly to the versatility and professionalism of our students and graduates. Interdisciplinary subjects are offered throughout all semesters.
- Personality Training: An applicant’s soft skills gain more and more importance in the eyes of human resource managers. Consequently, this course deals with topics such as personality development, teambuilding, conflict management, self-organisation, presentation techniques and negotiation skills.
- Applied Computer Technologies: Professional and confident handling of the latest software is a prerequisite for professional success in today’s business environment. This module makes sure that our students stay abreast of technological changes.
- Research and Academic Writing: Even though a University of Applied Sciences is characterised by its practical orientation it is also a research institution, which lives up to the international standards of the Scientific Community. Our students writing their bachelor theses are part of this Scientific Community. For that reason high value is set on giving the students an understanding of the world of research by providing them with both, theoretical input and possibilities for practical utilisation.
Languages
The ability to communicate in the business partner’s language is a critical success factor in international business relationships. Consequently, fostering multilingual students and graduates is one of our top priorities. Apart from English as the mandatory course language the students will acquire profound knowledge in two more languages that can be chosen out of a pool which comprises 6 languages: French, Spanish, Russian, Czech, Chinese and Arabic.
