Krems

Within easy reach from Vienna - the capital of Austria

Krems6

Krems is a small university town rich in tradition and is justifiably called the education capital of Lower Austria. The town’s flair and the cultural and leisure activities it offers mean that students get to feel at home.

Krems, with its population of 25,000 people, is one of the oldest towns in the country and was first mentioned in 995. The town is characterised by its historic buildings which contribute to its distinctive flair. Wherever you go you are confronted with 1.000 years of history – in the streets and on the squares, in the old monasteries and churches and in the town houses and forts. And afterwards you can relax and enjoy the open-air cafes, restaurants and taverns.

Krems has its own festival which attracts thousands of visitors each year who come to sample the wide programme of events and the diverse range of music and theatre. The town has also become an established centre for contemporary art and culture – for example, it is the Krems art quarter, home to the Caricature and Literature Museum and the art gallery. Krems’ gallery has hosted many renowned exhibitions of 19th and 20th century art.

Training, research and practical work are tied together in a perfect symbiosis. It is no coincidence that firms are moving to Krems where science, research and education are offered in one place.

Fitness and well-being are important commodities and also provide an excellent balance to studying. The stunning vineyards around Krems offer the opportunity for jogging, mountain biking, inline skating and relaxation.
